10nm Intel's 11th generation (Tiger Lake-H) mobile CPUs for high-performance notebooks will be released in early 2021.

Compal reports that Intel is preparing a series of 10nm Tiger Lake-H processors for high-performance laptops, planning to release them in the first quarter of 2021. These processors will replace the current 45-watt Intel 10th generation Comet Lake-H CPU using the old Skylake architecture and 14nm processor.

We have already written about processors of Tiger Lake family more than once. On September 2, Intel is planning a big presentation where the announcement of Intel 11th generation mobile CPUs (Tiger Lake) is expected. But everything points to the fact that within the Intel 11th generation series only energy efficient models (Tiger Lake-U with a customizable 15-28W heat package and 9-watt Tiger Lake-Y) coming to replace Core 10th generation Ice Lake-U/Y are making their debut.

Recall that Tiger Lake processors will receive x86 cores on the promising Willow Cove architecture (instead of Sunny Cove in the current generation), GPU Gen12 of Xe family, a kind of Discrete Graphics 1 video adapter, and will be produced on an improved 10 nm+ process. Flagship will be a quad-core eight-core Core i7-1185G7, running at 3.0 to 4.7 GHz, with built-in Iris Xe Graphics GPU with 96 executive blocks. The updated Acer Swift 5 notebook will receive this processor among other competing models.

As for the higher-performance Tiger Lake-Hs, in addition to rising to 35-45 W TDP levels and therefore higher frequencies, they are expected to increase the number of physical cores to eight. That is, the future Tiger Lake-H will be a full-fledged rival to the current eight-core Ryzen 4000H APUs. But it is important to understand that by the time Tiger Lake-H enters the market, AMD is likely to have already released the Ryzen 5000H. By the way, Tiger Lake-H will be the first 10nm Intel high-performance notebook CPUs (gaming and workstations), as the current 10nm Ice Lake family is represented only by Ice Lake-U and Y.


The Starship SN5 prototype made its first flight

SpaceX has made significant progress in its ambitious project to colonize the Moon and Mars: the Starship prototype SN5 successfully made its first flight this late night - it climbed 150 meters, moved slightly to the side and gently landed on a nearby site near the launch site. "[Flight to] Mars is becoming real", tweeted SpaceX head Ilon Mask commenting on the first flight tests.

Starship and Super Heavy are promising super-heavy missiles and ships developed by SpaceX to replace the current family of Falcon missiles and Dragon ships. The second stage simultaneously acts as a manned or cargo spacecraft. The rocket is designed to be completely reusable and both stages will be able to perform a soft landing after a space flight. The rocket will be capable of delivering up to 150 tons of cargo to low-Earth orbit in a fully reusable configuration with both stages (Super Heavy and Starship) returned to Earth, as well as the ability to dock and refuel in orbit.

Last year, SpaceX conducted a series of successful tests on the reduced Starhopper (aka Pepelatz and Water Tower) - first static engine tests with the Starhopper on land, and then we saw the first flight tests of the test Starhopper with 20 and 150 m altitude lifts.

SN5 is the fifth full-size prototype of the Starship. The previous four (Mk1, SN1, SN3 and SN4) failed at earlier stages of the test. Earlier Musk said that to create an orbital sample of Starship will need to build at least 20 such prototypes. As it has been repeatedly noted, SpaceX had to abandon the traditional design approach in favor of an aggressive approach of rapid prototyping with constant significant changes in design (read: refinement in the process of testing).

The SN5 tests were conducted at SpaceX's Boca Chica Cosmodrome, near the town of Brownsville in southern Texas, where all major design work is being done, and were broadcast live on NASASpaceflight's YouTube channel. The jump itself can be seen in the video below.

SpaceX itself published better video tests on its YouTube channel. It is mounted with frames taken by two cameras: one of them was installed on the drone and shoots the launch from the air, and the second - is fixed directly on the rocket. The roller allows, among other things, to see how the Raptor methane oxygen engine works.

Earlier SN5 successfully passed cryogenic tests with fuel injection, and then fire tests with engine start. SN5 has only one Raptor engine installed and no wings either. The final version of Starship will receive six engines, of which one half will be optimized for low altitude and dense atmosphere maneuvers, and the other half will be adapted to work in an airless space.

According to Ilon Mask, soon SpaceX will conduct several more such tests with flights at low altitudes, followed by a suborbital launch, in which the prototype ship will rise to an altitude of 20 kilometers (half a distance to the upper limit of the atmosphere) and land back on the spaceport. After about 10 test orbital launches, SpaceX expects to make the first manned demonstration launch of Starship without people.

The team is currently working on the next prototypes of SN6 and SN7, which can receive three engines and air rudder.

Recall that we were initially promised an orbital test launch by April 2020. But Ilon Mask is known for his habit of giving too optimistic estimates and it was immediately clear that the deadline can be increased two or three times. Now the first full launch of the final version of the rocket is tentatively scheduled for 2021.

Earlier SpaceX estimated the Starship project at $5 billion, how much was spent on the development of the project to date, is unknown. And although Starship, according to the plan, should eventually replace all other missiles and spacecraft SpaceX, Ilona Mask company continues to develop its other projects. Earlier NASA chose SpaceX to deliver cargo to this station with the help of Falcon Heavy rocket and the new cargo ship Dragon XL, and instructed the company Mask to develop a landing vehicle for manned lunar mission Artemis.

It remains to be added that SpaceX has already chosen a site for the construction of the plant and engineering center in the port of Los Angeles, where the interplanetary spaceships Starship will be developed and assembled, and plans to create a version of Starship for hypersonic passenger traffic on Earth, building the infrastructure for this - floating space objects.


"Probability is high" - Ilon Mask about release of reduced version of Tesla Cybertruck for Europe.

Tesla, as we know, refused to make a production Cybertruck pickup more compact (its prototype was too big for a standard garage), but it does not mean that a reduced version of the armored pickup will never see the light. On the contrary, the company is considering producing a reduced, compact version of the truck for the European market. And now the possibility of producing a mini pickup Cybertruck is estimated as very high. The head of the company Ilon Mask said this in one of his recent tweets.

Recall, Mask presented a pickup Cybertruck in a very unusual futuristic design at a presentation in Los Angeles on November 22. After that, everybody only discussed (still discuss) how the chief designer Franz von Holzhausen accidentally broke bulletproof glass of the car (later the company successfully beat this story), and the polygonal design of the car as if from video games of the 1990s. Earlier, Mask explained both points.

The presented prototype Cybertruck has dimensions of 5.9x2.03x1.9 m, angle of front overhang up to 35 degrees, angle of rear overhang 28 degrees and ground clearance of about 0.4 m.

Such answer was given by Musk to the question of one of the users in the trades, discussing an article by CleanTechnica, quoting the statement of the Tesla chapter, that Cybertruck is the perfect machine in case of apocalypse (Does Musk know something?).

Another user objected that it is much more important in today's reality to reduce the width rather than the length. The head of Tesla agreed with him.

So far, there are no even expected dates of release of a reduced version of Cybertruck for Europe.

Series production of the Tesla Cybertruck is scheduled to begin in 2021 at the new Gigafactory 5 in Austin, Texas. If to believe recent estimations of analysts, the volume of orders for Cybertruck has already exceeded 650 thousand pieces. Also this plant will produce Model Y crossovers, Model 3 sedans for the East Coast of the United States and Tesla Semi tractors.

Totally three versions of the Tesla Cybertruck are planned, differing in number of engines - one, two and three (base - rear-wheel drive, medium and top - all-wheel drive), and range at one charge - 250 miles (400 km), 300 miles (480 km) and 500 miles (800 km) respectively. The more expensive versions with two ($49,900) and three ($69,900) engines will be the first to be released, while the folk Cybertruck ($39,900) will be delayed at least until the end of 2022.

Finnish HMD Global, which produces Nokia smartphones, has raised $230 million from Google, Qualcomm and Nokia.

Finnish company HMD Global, which successfully revived the Nokia brand in the smartphone market more than three years ago, announced the successful closure of another $230 million A2 Series funding round, which involved Google, Qualcomm and Nokia Technologies (the consumer division of Finnish Nokia).

This round is notable not only for the amount of investment, but also for the composition of investors. Although HMD Global does not disclose the names of all investors or details of the amount of investment of each of the participants, it provides a rough idea of how the Nokia brand will develop further.

The company reports that it plans to expand its range with more 5G smartphone models, as well as to enter new markets, including Brazil, India and Africa. Given the ongoing conflict between the U.S. and Huawei, Google and Qualcomm's interest in HMD Global is understandable from a commercial perspective. In the Android One program, HMD Global is known to be the main and now almost the only Google partner among famous manufacturers. For Qualcomm business, which suffered from the U.S. sanctions against Huawei, rapprochement with the Finnish company HMD Global, whose main office and servers are located in Europe, is as beneficial as possible in all respects.

Even before the pandemic last year the sharp growth was replaced by an equally sharp decline: in the first quarter of this year the company shipped only 1.7 million smartphones compared to 2.8 million in the fourth quarter of 2019 and 4.8 million in the second quarter of 2019. Now the Nokia brand ranks 13th in the list of major suppliers with a modest market share of 1%. And here I unwittingly recall the bold statement of HMD Global in late 2018 to bring the brand Nokia in the top 5 largest suppliers of smartphones in 3-5 years.

Not so long ago Nokia 8.3 5G - the first 5G smartphone of the brand based on SoC Snapdragon 765G was released. Mi 55W Wireless Charging Stand is designed as a stand for a smartphone. The design of the novelty offers two colors - gold base and black top. On the bottom part there is an LED indication, which is activated when the device is connected. The charger is 55 Watt and can transmit power to compatible Xiaomi smartphones. Last year Xiaomi announced a wireless charging pad that made it easier to place a smartphone above the surface of the charging reel. The design of the MediaWorkstations a-X2P model is very similar to the a-XP version. The mobile workstation is designed as a large system unit with a display and a folding keyboard on one side. However, when creating this model, engineers decided to integrate everything and more into the case. Let's start with the fact that the system is made on the basis of SP3 motherboard and provides the use of two processors. In the basic configuration it can be 8-core AMD EPYC 7252 chips with 3.1 GHz and 120 W TDP. There are 13 processor models available for users to choose from. The maximum configuration can already include two AMD EPYC 7742 processors. Each of these chips includes 64 processing cores, 256 MB of cache memory, operates at 2.25 GHz and has a TDP value of 225 W. Thus, with a maximum configuration, the system includes 128 processing cores.

The motherboard used allows installation of up to 4 TB of RAM. But MediaWorkstations decided to limit it to "only" 2 TB of RAM in the maximum configuration (64 GB available in the base version). The MediaWorkstations a-X2P mobile workstation can include up to three drives. Only one 256GB Samsung 970 EVO Plus PCIe SSD is available in the basic configuration, offering peak read speeds up to 3,500MB/s and write speeds up to 2,300MB/s. The main SSD can be expanded to 2 TB if required. A second drive (SSD only) can have a maximum capacity of up to 2 TB. Microsoft Surface Duo two-screen smartphone on Android will be released on September 10, and will cost - $ 1400

Microsoft revealed the final features, as well as the price and exact date of sale of the folding two-screen smartphone Surface Duo on Android. The smartphone Surface Duo will go on sale on September 10 at a price of $ 1400 (lower than that of competitors Galaxy Z Fold2 and Huawei Mate Xs). The novelty will not be officially sold in Ukraine.

Recall that Microsoft announced Surface Duo in October 2019 together with Surface Neo, immediately stipulating that the market both folding devices with two screens will be released only in late 2020. Both are made in the form factor book with two screens. Only Surface Duo is more compact, and Surface Neo already falls into the category of tablets. As the software basis for its folding smartphone Surface Duo, Microsoft has chosen not its own Windows 10X, adapted to work with dual screens devices, but a competing mobile platform Android. Optical stabilization in the camera is not, only electronic. In addition, the camera is located in the front upper right corner, and to use it as the main quality, you will have to fold the device completely screens outward.

Microsoft Surface Duo has two batteries, one in each half. At the same time, their total capacity is a modest by current standards 3577 mAh. However, Microsoft assures that this will be enough for a whole day of battery life of the device. Also mentioned is support for 18-watt charging.

We can also note the absence of NFC module and 5G support. Microsoft Surface Duo is 4.8 mm thick when opened and 9.6 mm thick when folded.

As a result, we can say that even on paper Microsoft Surface Duo looks quite unconvincing, but for the final conclusions, of course, we should wait for full reviews.


More than 800 km on one charge. Lucid Air is preparing to take away the title of the most "long-haul" electric car from Tesla Model S.

Today, Tesla electric cars are the undisputed leaders in driving range on a single battery charge. In fact, the Tesla Model S in the "long range" version of the Long Range Plus with a 100 kWh battery has a range of 402 miles (647 km) on the American EPA measurement cycle, which is considered the most accurate. So far, no one has even been able to get close to it. But yesterday, California electric car manufacturer Lucid Motors (old name Atieva) announced that its premium-sedan Lucid Air would have a range of 517 miles (832 km), not 400 miles (643 km) as originally planned, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA).

To evaluate the range of the electric vehicle Lucid Air, Lucid Motors engaged an independent firm FEV North America, which conducted tests in Auburn Hills, Michigan. FEV North America specialists tested Lucid Air according to the protocols of the Environmental Protection Agency, enshrined in the standard SAEJ1634. You can see the results below.

If this data is officially confirmed by the EPA, Lucid Air will take the lead from Tesla Model S Long Range Plus 2020, setting a new industry record. The EPA report will have to wait until the spring of 2021.

Note20 FE coming up? Samsung intends to continue to release folk FE-versions of the flagship smartphones.
